Orthodox spin bowler
Sam Bates began her cricket career in Newcastle where she was playing with the boys until she was 17. An ACL rupture at the age of 18 saw her change from pace to spin bowling.
In 2015 Sam was selected for the Shooting Stars under 23 (Australia A) team that toured Dubai, later that year Sam played in the inaugural WBBL match for Sydney Thunder.
Sam has represented ACT Meteors, Tasmanian Tigers and Victoria in the WNCL and was selected in the team of the year in 2017 and 2022. She was also selected in the WBBL team of the year in 2020. Sam currently represents Sydney Thunder in the WBBL and Victoria in the WNCL.
